About

THANK you for visiting Route Walk. The blog is only just taking its first tentative steps, so at the moment (August 2013) there’s not a great deal on it. But the aim is to gradually populate it with material about walking.

Fitness and Fun
Route Walk will centre on walking for health, fitness and fun. It’s not an official walk guide, nor will it focus on well-known coastal and country paths or themed walks or organised group rambles or anything like that. They may well be referred to, and relevant links will be added over time. But there are already excellent websites, blogs and publications dealing with those activities.

Walk for all
Route Walk is about the sort of walking anyone with a pair of comfy shoes and lived-in clothing can do – from a stroll around the block, to a pound around the park. I’m a bit of a ‘pound-around-the-park’ person myself because I like the challenge, and the blog will reflect that. I love the physicality of walking. I like the moment when you’re a mile or two out, and you think:  ‘Shucks! I’ve got all that distance to go back again!’ And the only option is to – walk ( . . . or crawl, if you’ve reached that stage!).

Healthy note
Route Walk is simply about the activity of walking. A 20-minute stroll is better than nothing. The blog will highlight the health benefits, but without whacking people around the head with a stick of celery just to reinforce the message. (I like doughnuts too much for that!).

Amazing motion
Route Walk will also aim to provide snippets of interest and other items to give a broad and hopefully interesting picture of this amazing, fundamental action where you simply put one foot in front of the other, swing your arms a bit - and off you go!

Longer life
What could be a simpler way to engage in physical activity, lift your mood – and prolong your life at the same time?

I hope you enjoy Route Walk, and feel inspired to wander – if not walk - on to the blog for a return visit or two!

And, of course, your ideas, suggestions and questions are always welcome!

  2. Thanks for your encouraging comments, Rich. Yes, a good walk can certainly give body and soul a lift! Went with some photographer friends on a photo walk around the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham recently. Very urban, but amazing what you see once you start looking. Have visited your blog (and website) and have included a link on the links page. Love the walks, love the pics, love the idea of cappuccino and cheese scones to start the day!! :-)

  3. Hello Routewalk, and what a lovely sunny morning it is :o) I have noticed a change to your blog pages which I believe are a great help. The 'Follow' button is a really great addition, and the 'Back to Top' button on the right is a real help. Thank you and hope you can get a walk in today. Carry on the good work. By the way, my daughter says thank you for the fabulous photo's.
